Minimum Ratings: Single Engine Land, Tail Wheel Aircraft, Instrument Aircraft

FAA Second Class Medical

Alaska Assistant Guide License and Sport Fishing Guide License

    Total Time PIC:    3,000 hours           1,000 tail dragger experience

    Alaska Time:         1,000 hours

    PA-18 Super Cub:    300 hours

    Cessna 180 / 185      100 hours wheels

    Beaver Wheels         100 hours

Experience in high winds required.

This position is for an experienced off airport pilot with Alaska hunting and fishing experience including; current hunting and fishing licenses, assistant hunting guide license, sport fishing guide license, plus current first aid and CPR certifications,  These are all requirements of the job.  If you don't or can't meet these minimum requirements, don't bother applying for this position.  We are not training pilots, we are looking for an experience bush pilot with current experience in the Alaska hunting and fishing lodge business to join our team. 

Applicant must be a team player, not a solo artist.  Must be able to take direction and accept constructive criticism. Applicant must be in excellent physical condition and able to load and unload moose quarters, supplies and heavy gear in an out of aircraft. Applicant can't be afraid to get dirty, bloody or fishy because that is the business we are in. Applicant must be willing to live in the Alaska bush from August through October, living at a hunting and fishing lodge, sharing quarters with other pilots, guides and employees.  Drug testing may be required at any time.

Plan on working 7 days a week and a 14 hour duty day.  Part 135 experience not required, but preferred. All flying is weather permitting, VFR, and in mountainous country.  Pilots in this position normally fly 70 to 100 hours in the fall season (August - October). Primarily flying PA-18-160hp Super Cub, transporting guides, clients, moose meat, bear hides, supplies and fuel. Flying Cessna 185 or DH-2 depending on experience.  Based on the Alaska Peninsula at Wildman Lake Lodge in August and Cinder River Lodge in September and October. Alaska sport fishing experience is necessary as during the sport fishing season, pilot will be guiding fishermen on fly-out fishing days.

Pilots are expected to pitch in where needed to perform other work around the lodge.  May need to help with meat packing, fish processing, hide fleshing, aircraft cleaning and routine maintenance of aircraft and other equipment used at the lodge.  Work can be hard, days can be long, opportunity for long term summer employment is excellent. 

Certain rules apply to all employees:

         •  No drugs, excessive drinking, or partying are allowed.

         •  Smoking is discouraged. 

         •  Pets are not allowed.

Employment Dates, Salary, and Bonuses

Our season is June through October flying all wheel aircraft: PA-18 Super Cubs, Cessna 185 and DH-2 Beaver.  Must be proficient in all aircraft in short field and beach conditions.  3,000 hours minimum time as Pilot in Command and minimum 100 hours in each make and model with 1,000 hours of tail dragger time and 1,000 hours Alaska time.

Wildman Lake Lodge employees are paid the highest salaries in the business.  In return, we expect our employees to make sure that our guests get an outstanding vacation at our remote wilderness hunting and fishing lodges. Working at the lodge is not only an adventure but an opportunity to save money. Unlike other jobs, we furnish room and meals.  Entire incomes can be saved as there is nowhere to spend money.

Starting salary will be about $4,500.00 per month, for a qualified Commercial Pilot. You are paid based on a 14 hour work day, seven days a week. Days off are taken when the weather is not flyable. This is paid once every quarter. Staff may take two draws per pay period totaling no more than 70% of the amount due the employee after deductions have been made. The company will issue the final payroll check within 14 days of the end of the term of employment.

The employee will be responsible for travel expenses to and from the lodge. This includes round trip airline transportation from the employee’s hometown as well as lodging and meals enroute. Airline ticketing is available to the Lodge. 

Provided that the employee performs his duties satisfactorily for the full term of the employment as described above, and has not been terminated for causes described below, the Managers shall include in the employee’s final paycheck a season end bonus of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00). This bonus is primarily an inducement for the employee to stay the entire season. If the employee is terminated for any of the reasons listed below, the employee will not be entitled to any bonus or reimbursement of airfare.

             Reasons for Termination

         •  Use of drugs or excessive use of alcohol at any time

• Abuse of company equipment, or unsafe practices

         •  Nonperformance of the work assigned by supervisors  

         •  Not cooperating or getting along with supervisors, coworkers or clients

         •  Endangering coworkers or clients due to recklessness or negligent acts

         •  Use of abusive or excessive profane language around guests or coworkers

         •  Refusing to conform to dress standards, i.e., maintaining a professional appearance
