Char fishing in Alaska

Dear Butch, Kathy and staff,

Sarah and I want to thank you for a memorable fun and action packed week. Both of us had some reservations about the trip because neither of us is an excellent fly caster. We trusted our friends Fred and Karen that we would do fine and are very happy that we came to Wildman Lodge. It was an amazing experience. Great staff, fabulous food, unbelievably good fishing, and a lodge that is so remote not only the guests but everything else has to be flown in. The only people on the river were your guests and guides. How you and Kathy manage all the moving parts to make this possible year after year is remarkable. Planes, boats, fuel, food, guides, staff and guests are managed every day yielding what few lodges are able to pull off even with road access.

Within a few hours of landing my wife and I were pulling out Char bigger than most of the trout we had ever caught. But it was the silver’s we came for and the Silver fishing far exceeded both of our expectations. Having a 15+ pound Silver create a huge wave as it follows and then strikes a popper and you hook them and land them is something we both feel very fortunate to have experienced. Peyton made a fly for Sarah and she caught 5 fish with it and one of them was her largest Silver. I have attached a picture of this fish and fly. And both of us with the help of your guides improved our fly casting significantly.

If you are ever contacted by someone who is interested but doubts their fly casting skills they are welcome to contact either of us. In fact if anyone wanted to contact us about our experience at your lodge please feel free to have them do so.

I had a very memorable visit to Wildman Lodge in September of 2014 with my husband and truly rate it as a five-star experience. My first hint that this was the place to be was that the majority of the other guests were repeat visitors. Our room was quite comfortable and clean and the food was excellent. Butch, Kathy, the staff, chef, pilots, and guides were all eager to make our stay the best it could possibly be and were courteous, kind, and thoughtful. Wildman was the perfect place for my first visit to the Alaskan back country and we are already planning for our return.  Is Char fishing in Alaska always this good?

‘A Critical Review of Wildman Lodge’ – August 2013

This visit to the wilds of Alaska was a dream come true for my wife and I. At 65 years and considered old folks we actually had no idea of what to expect on this venture having no personal reference concerning Wildman Lodge. After 7 days here I must say that any and all concerns have been erased and replaced with all WOW’s!!!

As a Business Owner and Entrepreneur myself, I want to say that if you are looking for a trip to the Alaskan Wilderness away from the Cell Phones and all the hustle and bustle that us business hounds thrive on – then Wildman Lodge is your place – Come view the beauty and feel the serenity of this awesome land; enjoy it in style and get accustomed to being Pampered(as much or as little) as you choose; all this while dining on cuisine that rivals any big time 5-Star Restaurants in all of Texas; – This place has it all – and everyone here has that ” What can we help you with attitude!” A most refreshing change from the real world!!

I am Dale Behan and my wife and I live in Ft. Worth, Texas – Feel Free to contact me if you have questions or are considering such a trip!!!!

Butch & Kathy, you have a great staff, and it is very evident that you choose your employees to meet y our standards of integrity! We had a great time, and thank you all for being so patient with all of us ‘in-experienced’ wives—. Kathy, your touches are evident in the comfort of the accommodations, as well as the presentation of the culinary skills.

Hi Butch and gang: We had an absolutely fabulous experience on our king salmon trip. I have been on over 25 freshwater Alaskan salmon trips and have never had comparable service (guiding, dining, accommodations, etc.) . Your complete staff deserves my best recommendations. Our Scottish long-rod fly-fishing buddies also added to the enjoyment. Of course, my taking twenty one kings to 45 lbs on a fly in one day was something I had never hoped to achieve and didn’t believe it was possible.

Butch & Kathy: I wanted to take a moment to thank the both of you and your staff once again for making our trip to Wildman a success as well as a whole lot of fun. All three of us left feeling that we were very lucky in this life to have experienced our time with you… take care.  Best Regards,
